Kano Rep Abdulhakeem Ado Leaves NNPP for New Platform

Hon. Abdulhakeem Kamilu Ado, the elected representative for the Wudil/Garko Federal Constituency in Nigeria’s House of Representatives, has officially resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP). The departure, which took immediate effect, marks a notable shift within the legislative delegation from Kano State.

The formal resignation was communicated through a letter dated March 30, 2026, addressed to Abdulrashid Umar Ado, the ward chairman for Kausani Ward. Party leadership acknowledged receipt of the document on the same day, confirming the procedural completion of the withdrawal. Ado currently serves as Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Urban Development and Regional Planning, and his committee responsibilities remain unchanged following the announcement.

In the correspondence, the lawmaker outlined his intention to transition to a different political organisation that better aligns with his policy priorities. He described the move as a strategic step toward engaging a platform capable of delivering structured responses to economic, infrastructural, and governance issues facing the country. “This decision is taken in good faith as I found it necessary to align with another political platform and I deem it necessary to move to another platform that proffer effective solution to the national challenges,” he stated.

The representative extended formal appreciation to the NNPP national and state executives, as well as constituents in Wudil and Garko, for their campaign support and continued engagement during his time in the chamber. While the destination party was not named in the notice, such transitions are frequently coordinated with party executives ahead of public confirmation.

Under Nigeria’s electoral framework, elected lawmakers retain their parliamentary seats during party transitions pending any formal legislative or judicial review. Ado is expected to maintain his voting record and constituency engagements as routine House sessions continue. Further updates regarding his political affiliation and upcoming committee participation are anticipated once official party registration processes are finalized.
