ADC Accuses APC of Targeting Despite Ruling Party Control

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of escalating legal and political pressure against the opposition party, despite maintaining a commanding majority across state and federal institutions. Bolaji Abdullahi, National Publicity Secretary for the ADC, addressed the allegations during a recent interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, stating that the party remains focused amid ongoing judicial and political developments.

Abdullahi contrasted the APC’s current representation, which includes control of approximately 34 state governorships and leadership in both chambers of the National Assembly, with its continued litigation against smaller political groups. He alleged that ruling party operatives frequently reference the ADC in public statements, characterize it as politically weakened, and sponsor court cases targeted at its membership. Abdullahi also questioned the financial basis of these legal campaigns, suggesting that sudden investments in high-profile legal representation point to coordinated political efforts rather than organic disputes.

In response to scrutiny surrounding internal stability, Abdullahi assured prospective candidates and party affiliates that running under the ADC platform remains legally compliant and politically secure. The party leadership emphasized that strict adherence to Nigerian electoral regulations provides adequate protection for campaigns and organizational activities. This statement follows recent adjustments within Nigeria’s opposition landscape, where several groups continue to evaluate legal exposure and structural realignments.

Electoral litigation and inter-party negotiations remain standard components of Nigeria’s democratic process, particularly as political entities prepare for upcoming contest cycles. Opposition parties routinely navigate judicial reviews and membership shifts while operating within a political framework dominated by established ruling structures. The ADC’s public communications reflect a broader effort to maintain institutional stability and clarify its operational stance ahead of future electoral activities.

Moving forward, the ADC indicated it will continue operations through established political and legal channels. Party representatives stressed that strategic focus remains on policy development and constituency engagement, regardless of external legal filings or media commentary. Electoral oversight bodies and political observers are expected to track subsequent court proceedings and party registrations as Nigeria approaches its next major election timetable.
