Senegalese-born digital creator Khaby Lame has been appointed an official ambassador for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, event organizers confirmed. The assignment positions the content producer, who commands a global following exceeding 160 million users on TikTok, as a central figure in promotional campaigns for Africa’s first Olympic competition.
Under the partnership, Lame will integrate into the Youth Olympic Torch Tour across Senegal and feature in the official relay, scheduled to reach Dakar on September 12. His responsibilities will center on outreach to younger demographics and supporting the social inclusion objectives of the Games. Programming will extend to Mbacké, his birthplace, with organizers noting his role in facilitating local engagement and highlighting youth pathways in athletics and community development.
The Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games will operate from October 31 to November 13, 2026, utilizing three host zones: Dakar, Diamniadio, and the coastal municipality of Saly. The multisport festival is expected to gather approximately 2,700 competitors under the age of 17. Established by the International Olympic Committee, the Youth Olympic framework combines elite competition with educational workshops and cultural exchanges, prioritizing sustainable event delivery and long-term infrastructure development for host communities.
Addressing his appointment, Lame highlighted a focus on regional talent. “This commitment reflects my desire to support young African talent, in sports and far beyond,” he said. He noted that the event would provide a platform to showcase African potential on the global stage, adding that successful organization would require coordinated community involvement and institutional readiness.
The ambassadorship aligns with Dakar 2026’s communications strategy, which relies on digital influencers to expand international visibility and drive grassroots participation. Preparatory activities will continue through mid-2026, with coordinating bodies managing venue finalization, athlete qualification cycles, and cultural programming ahead of the opening ceremonies.
