Jigawa Ex-Chairman Udi Resigns From APC Over Party Ideals

Shehu Sule Udi, former chairman of the Ringim Local Government Area in Jigawa State, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing a departure from the party’s founding principles.

The resignation was formalized in a letter submitted to the APC ward chairman in Ringim on Thursday. The correspondence, obtained by local media, bears Udi’s signature and declares his membership termination effective immediately. In the document, the former council chairman explained that his decision followed extensive consultations with community supporters and a detailed evaluation of the party’s internal direction. He noted that recent developments at the local, state, and national levels have created a policy environment he can no longer support, marking what he described as a gradual shift away from the APC’s original mandate.

Udi emphasized that his departure was a calculated political step rather than an impulsive action. Despite leaving the organization, he expressed formal appreciation for the administrative experience and collaborative opportunities gained during his APC tenure. He extended public well wishes to current party officials and reiterated his focus on continued civic responsibility within Jigawa State.

Membership transitions are a routine feature of Nigeria’s multi-party system, frequently occurring as local and regional officials realign ahead of upcoming electoral cycles and internal party reforms. Udi’s resignation reflects a continuing pattern of grassroots leaders adjusting their party affiliations in response to shifting leadership structures and operational priorities within major political organizations.

The former Ringim administrator has not announced his next political destination, leaving his immediate trajectory unconfirmed. Several local allies have indicated that Udi may transition to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), though neither the former chairman nor ADC regional coordinators have issued a formal statement confirming a move. State-level political analysts and APC ward committees are monitoring the development as local party structures prepare for upcoming administrative updates and voter registration activities.
