Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu led a delegation of Nigerian security officials to Jos, Plateau State, on Thursday, April 2, 2026, to conduct an on-site assessment of regional security operations. The inspection supports ongoing military and law enforcement efforts to stabilize the area and restore public order.
According to a statement issued by Colonel Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the visit aligns with federal initiatives to reduce violence and institutionalize sustainable peace in the state. Upon arrival, the Army Chief was formally received by Governor Caleb Mutfwang, highlighting continued coordination between state authorities and national defense structures. Such civil-military cooperation has become a standard operational framework for managing regional security challenges and ensuring unified response protocols.
During the field assessment, Lieutenant General Shaibu received a detailed operational briefing from Major General Folusho Oyinlola, General Officer Commanding 3 Division and commander of Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace. Officials outlined current deployment strategies, intelligence-sharing mechanisms, and coordinated patrols designed to neutralize threats, protect civilian infrastructure, and support affected communities. Military representatives noted that integrated operations with police, paramilitary units, and local agencies remain essential to maintaining a responsive security posture across vulnerable districts.
Lieutenant General Shaibu subsequently met with traditional leaders, local administrators, and community residents to reinforce the Nigerian Army’s commitment to safeguarding lawful activities. He instructed residents to observe the active curfew, report unusual activity through established channels, and cooperate with ongoing investigations while continuing routine economic and social engagements. Hon. Dachung Bagos, Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area, acknowledged the visit, noting that direct oversight from top military leadership typically reinforces public confidence and validates existing security planning.
