Khartoum — Prime Minister Dr. Kamil Idris has reaffirmed the Government of Hope’s commitment to strengthening the protection of civilians in Sudan. The pledge came during a meeting on Wednesday in Khartoum with a delegation from the Center for Civilians in Conflict (CIVIC), led by Deputy Chairman and Director of Programs Omar Ahmed Ibnaza.
Dr. Idris emphasized that civilian protection is a core pillar of the Government of Sudan’s peace initiative. He reiterated the administration’s readiness to cooperate with CIVIC and to address any obstacles hindering the organization’s work in the country.
The discussions focused on enhancing collaboration between relevant government institutions and CIVIC to bolster civilian protection efforts. The meeting also reviewed outcomes from a roundtable conference organized by the National Mechanism for the Protection of Civilians in partnership with CIVIC on April 2 in Khartoum. Additionally, memoranda of understanding signed between the Ministry of Social Welfare in Khartoum and Kassala states and CIVIC were addressed, highlighting steps to strengthen civilian protection frameworks.
For his part, Ibnaza affirmed CIVIC’s readiness to provide technical support to Sudanese authorities, particularly in capacity-building, to advance the protection of civilians. The organization’s involvement underscores growing international engagement in Sudan’s efforts to safeguard civilian populations amid ongoing challenges.
The meeting signals continued momentum in Sudan’s peace process and its commitment to protecting civilians as a foundation for lasting stability.
