Laolu Akande Criticizes Atiku and Tinubu’s Political Tactics

Former media aide to ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Laolu Akande, has criticised both Atiku Abubakar and President Bola Tinubu, saying they share a political philosophy that prioritises personal advantage over national transformation.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Inside Sources programme, Akande accused Atiku of undermining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by violating the party’s rotational presidency agreement. He also condemned Atiku’s recent claims that Tinubu is steering Nigeria towards a one-party state, describing the accusation as ironic given Atiku’s own role in fracturing his former party.

Akande argued that both politicians operate from a mindset that views political power as a means for personal gain rather than as a tool for public service. He contrasted their tactics with the broader aspirations of Nigerians for meaningful change, stressing that the pursuit of a reformed Nigeria must continue regardless of partisan manoeuvring.

The former spokesperson also criticised the current leadership of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), suggesting it has failed to maintain the neutrality expected of an electoral umpire under Tinubu’s administration.

Akande urged Nigerians to focus on substantive national issues rather than partisan narratives, warning that the country’s future depends on separating political rhetoric from the real challenges facing the nation.

His comments come amid ongoing debates over electoral integrity, party politics, and governance in Nigeria, as citizens and observers closely monitor developments that could shape the country’s political landscape.
