Lagos Lawmaker Backs Hamzat for 2027 Governorship Bid

Ikeja Federal Constituency representative James Faleke has publicly endorsed Deputy Governor Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat as the next governor of Lagos State. In a post on his official X account, Faleke called on APC supporters within his constituency and across Lagos to back Hamzat in the party’s upcoming primary election, which is scheduled for next month.

Hamzat, who currently serves as deputy governor under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, is seeking the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for the 2027 gubernatorial race. Faleke’s appeal emphasized the importance of party unity and collective support for Hamzat’s candidacy, framing the endorsement as a strategic move to maintain APC’s hold on Lagos State governance.

In related political developments, Funso Doherty, who previously contested the Lagos governorship under the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), has declared his intention to run in the 2027 election. Doherty announced his candidacy at an African Democratic Congress (ADC) meeting, with the declaration confirmed by ADC Vanguard, the party’s coalition mobilization wing.

The 2027 Lagos State gubernatorial election is expected to draw significant attention, with multiple aspirants from various political parties positioning themselves for the contest. As the ruling APC prepares for its primaries, endorsements from influential lawmakers like Faleke could play a decisive role in shaping the party’s candidate selection and electoral strategy.

Political analysts note that Lagos, Nigeria’s economic hub, remains a key battleground for national politics, and the outcome of the 2027 election could have implications for both state and federal governance. The race is set to intensify as parties finalize their candidates and campaign platforms in the lead-up to the primaries and general election.
