Nollywood actor Tobi Makinde has addressed ongoing speculation about a rift with fellow actor and producer Funke Akindele, dismissing claims of any personal fallout between them.
The rumours gained traction after Akindele, widely regarded as a mentor to Makinde in the industry, was notably absent from his December 2025 wedding. Social media users quickly interpreted her non-attendance as a sign of tension, especially given their long-standing professional relationship.
In an interview with BBC, Makinde pushed back against the narrative, stating that social media often amplifies misunderstandings that do not reflect reality. “I’m not aware of any fallout between madam Funke and I. Nothing really happened,” he said, speaking in Pidgin. “Our relationship did not start on social media and no be for social media e go end.”
He went on to explain that relationships in the entertainment industry can evolve or appear distant as individuals move through different phases of their careers. “As you grow and move from one level to another, some relationships may look like they are lost in transit,” he added.
Makinde rose to prominence following his roles in several of Akindele’s productions, where she often played a maternal figure on screen. Their on-screen chemistry and off-screen rapport endeared them to fans, making the alleged rift a topic of widespread discussion.
Despite the online chatter, Makinde’s remarks suggest that their relationship remains intact, albeit less publicly visible. Industry observers note that such shifts are not uncommon in Nollywood, where collaborations may ebb and flow with changing professional priorities.
The actor’s clarification is likely to temper speculation, though fans and media will likely continue to watch for any signs of renewed collaboration between the two stars.
