Nigerian troops from the 33 Artillery Brigade, working alongside officials from the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), have dismantled a suspected terrorist camp in Bauchi State.
The operation, carried out on April 10, targeted the Auta Kachalla Camp and surrounding areas in Alkaleri Local Government Area. According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, troops led by Brigadier General S.S. Shehu made contact with the militants around 10:30 a.m. and engaged them in a firefight. Under pressure from the advancing soldiers, the fighters fled into nearby bushes.
During the raid, the military recovered several items believed to be linked to terrorist activities. These included a Dane gun, a locally made firearm, five communication radios, a Point of Sale machine, a mobile phone, and a laptop. Troops also destroyed motorcycles found at the site, which were reportedly used by the suspects for transportation.
The operation underscores ongoing efforts by Nigerian security forces to combat insurgency and banditry in the North-East region. While no casualty figures were immediately disclosed, the destruction of the camp and seizure of equipment mark a significant disruption to the group’s operations.
Security sources have not yet identified the specific group targeted, but the area has been known for sporadic militant activity. The collaboration between the military and ONSA highlights a coordinated approach to addressing security threats across Nigeria’s volatile regions. Further updates on arrests or follow-up operations are expected as investigations continue.
