The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Ogun State is facing a leadership crisis after two rival state congresses were held simultaneously on Saturday, resulting in the emergence of two competing executive teams.
According to Media Talk Africa, the parallel congresses took place at separate venues and both claimed to have elected Emmanuel Famojuro as chairman, with Olumide Onabajo named State Publicity Secretary in each faction.
In a statement released on Sunday, Onabajo sought to clarify his position amid the growing factional dispute. He expressed gratitude to both sides for acknowledging his contributions to the party’s visibility across the state but voiced frustration over what he described as a lack of support from key stakeholders during his time working in the Ajuwon/Akute area of Ifo Local Government.
“After careful reflection and consultations,” Onabajo announced his decision to align with the faction led by Emmanuel Famojuro. He explained that the move was driven by a desire to continue contributing to the party’s stability and growth under leadership he feels more closely aligned with.
“While I will refrain from going into extensive details, I remain confident that my commitment, sacrifices, and personal investments in the party are known to God and to those who have followed my journey,” Onabajo stated. He added that the decision was “borne out of conviction” and the wish to contribute meaningfully to the party’s future.
The development deepens the uncertainty within the Ogun State chapter of the ADC, with both factions now claiming legitimacy. The party’s national leadership has yet to issue an official response or clarify which congress outcome will be recognized.
Observers say the split could weaken the ADC’s position in Ogun State ahead of future electoral contests, particularly if the dispute drags on without resolution.
