Nigerian men scared of bold, confident women - Phyna claims

Former Big Brother Naija winner Josephine Otabor, widely known as Phyna, has expressed her belief that her single status is partly a result of Nigerian men’s discomfort with confident and independent women. During a recent livestream on Twitch, the reality star noted that many Nigerian men tend to prefer partners they can control, often avoiding women who exhibit independence.

Phyna elaborated on this perspective by stating that outspoken women like herself are frequently judged based on their social media presence. She indicated that men often form assumptions about these women before meeting them in person. “I am a ten over ten,” she asserted, adding that many men are intimidated by bold and confident women. She pointed out that certain women exude an aura that makes it clear they cannot be easily controlled, which seems to deter Nigerian men who favor more submissive partners.

Moreover, Phyna highlighted that men often shy away from women who express their opinions or display signs of exposure, choosing to avoid them based solely on their public personas. Despite this trend, she emphasized that she remains unfazed by these attitudes, stating that she has no intention of altering herself to conform to traditional expectations. “I really don’t care,” she concluded.

Phyna gained prominence after winning the seventh season of Big Brother Naija in 2022, quickly establishing herself as one of the most notable figures from the reality TV franchise in Nigeria. Her outspoken personality and unfiltered commentary have garnered her a substantial following while also igniting discussions about gender roles and societal expectations within the country.
