Kola Oyewo Opens Up About Prostate Enlargement Battle

Veteran Nollywood actor Kola Oyewo has disclosed that he is battling prostate enlargement, a condition that has limited his ability to take on certain roles on screen. The 80-year-old actor shared the news during a visit by fellow actor Kunle Afod to his home.

Oyewo explained that the illness began manifesting through frequent urination, sleepless nights, and occasional accidents before he was diagnosed. “Before now, I could move from one location to another and play any role, but the illness has laid me back. I can no longer play certain roles except for some minor ones,” he said. Despite the setback, Oyewo expressed gratitude for his recovery, noting that while full restoration to his former self may not be possible, he is thankful for life.

The actor recounted driving himself to the hospital after enduring persistent symptoms, where tests confirmed an enlarged prostate. He acknowledged that many of his peers remain stronger but credited God for preserving his life.

Oyewo, a respected figure in Nigerian theatre and film, joined the industry in 1964 and gained widespread recognition for his roles in productions such as The Gods Are Not to Blame and Sango. Beyond acting, he served as a lecturer at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State, from 1996 until his retirement in 2011.

His revelation sheds light on the health challenges faced by ageing actors in Nollywood and underscores the importance of medical awareness and timely intervention.
