'Don't bring shame on Ndigbo, settle your issues privately' - J Martins urges PSquare

Veteran producer and singer J Martins has called on the former P-Square duo, Peter and Paul Okoye, to resolve their differences privately rather than airing their disputes on social media.

The appeal follows Peter Okoye’s recent announcement that he intends to change his birthday date, separating it from that of his twin brother, citing alleged betrayal by Paul and their elder brother Jude. J Martins, who served as the group’s producer for decades, described the decision as illogical and urged the brothers to settle their differences amicably to avoid bringing disrepute to the Igbo community.

In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Martins wrote: “These are my brothers for more than two decades. I still don’t understand why one will just wake up decades to change his own birthday separate from his twin brother? @PeterPSquare and RudeboyPsquare can we fix these stuff inside our house and bring this shame on ‘Ndi Igbo nke anyi’?”

The rift between Peter and Paul Okoye has been a subject of public interest for years, with previous disagreements leading to the group’s temporary split. Fans and industry stakeholders have often expressed hope for reconciliation, given the brothers’ significant contributions to the African music scene.

J Martins’ intervention highlights the broader concern within the entertainment industry about the impact of public disputes on personal and cultural reputations. As the Okoye brothers navigate their differences, calls for private resolution continue to resonate among fans and colleagues alike.
