Kebbi Woman Gives Birth to Twin Boys at Fundraiser Event

Birnin Kebbi – A woman from Kebbi State unexpectedly gave birth to twin boys during a political fundraising event on Sunday, prompting immediate medical attention and a subsequent charitable donation.

The incident occurred at Haliru Audu Stadium, where the First Lady of Kebbi State, Zainab Nasir Idris, was hosting a fundraiser to rally support for women’s organisations. Governor Nasir Idris, the First Lady and a procession of party loyalists were present when the pregnant woman arrived seeking assistance. According to eyewitnesses, she went into labour shortly after entering the venue and delivered two newborns on the stadium floor.

Medical personnel at the event quickly assisted and transferred the mother and her infants to a nearby hospital for comprehensive care. Hospital officials confirmed that both babies were alive and receiving treatment, while the mother was examined for any complications arising from the unexpected delivery.

In response to the emergency, Bello Dallatun Ka’oje, the Member of the House of Representatives for Suru/Bagudo Federal Constituency, announced a donation of N5 million on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris. The funds are intended to cover the mother’s medical expenses and support the naming ceremony for the twins.

The fundraising event, organized by the First Lady, aimed to mobilise financial and moral backing for women’s groups operating across the state. Organisers described the birth as an unforeseen circumstance that highlighted the need for accessible maternal health services, especially during public gatherings.

Kebbi state officials have not disclosed whether any policy measures will be introduced following the incident. However, the swift medical response and the governor’s office’s financial assistance underscore a broader commitment to maternal health and emergency preparedness in the region.

The twins’ families are expected to hold a naming ceremony in the coming weeks, with community members and political figures slated to attend.
