Workers’ Day: APC Chairman Yilwatda Applauds Nigerian Labour

ABUJA, Nigeria – The National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, has extended congratulations to Nigerian workers on the occasion of Workers’ Day 2026. In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, Abimbola Tooki, Yilwatda praised the resilience, patriotism and contribution of workers across all sectors of the economy.

Yilwatda described workers’ sacrifices, diligence and commitment as the “backbone of national progress” and highlighted their endurance amid challenging economic conditions. He said the perseverance shown by labourers reflects the strength and character of the Nigerian people.

The APC chairman reaffirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is committed to policies and programmes that prioritize the welfare, dignity and prosperity of the workforce. He characterized the president as “a worker‑friendly leader who understands the central role of labour in nation‑building.”

According to Yilwatda, the current government’s economic reforms are essential for repositioning Nigeria toward sustainable growth and long‑term prosperity. He cited several key measures: the removal of the fuel subsidy, unification of the foreign‑exchange system, increased infrastructure investment, expansion of social‑intervention programmes and a renewed focus on industrialisation. The chairman argued that these policies aim to address structural challenges, boost productivity, enhance economic stability, attract local and foreign investment and generate employment opportunities.

While acknowledging that the transition may cause short‑term difficulties, Yilwatda said the government is implementing targeted interventions to mitigate adverse effects and ensure that the benefits of the reforms are broadly shared. He urged workers to remain steadfast and united in supporting the nation’s development agenda, emphasizing that collective effort is vital to achieving an inclusive and resilient economy.

The statement concluded with a wish for a “happy and fulfilling Workers’ Day” and a prayer for continued strength, progress and prosperity for Nigerian workers and their families.

Workers’ Day 2026 thus serves as a platform for the ruling party to reiterate its commitment to labour‑related reforms and to underscore the importance of the workforce in Nigeria’s economic agenda. The APC’s message aligns with the administration’s broader strategy of structural adjustment and industrial revitalisation, signalling continued focus on policies designed to enhance the nation’s productive capacity.
