Nigerian Air Force Hits Terrorist Hub in Katsina Area

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) carried out a precision airstrike on a terrorist enclave in Katsina State on 1 May, destroying a key logistics hideout and neutralising a number of fighters, the service’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, said in a statement released in Abuja on Sunday.

The operation formed part of the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Sector 2, and targeted a location inside the Dan‑Aji Forest in Faskari Local Government Area. According to the NAF, the site served as a logistics hub for a network linked to terrorist kingpin Abasu Aiki, whose fighters operate along the Faskari‑Kankara‑Funtua axis of Katsina State.

Ejodame said sustained, credible intelligence indicated a resurgence of terrorist activity in the area, prompting the strike. “NAF air assets identified armed terrorists on motorcycles together with other combatants within the enclave and executed a swift, coordinated strike on the location and its support structures,” he said.

Battle‑damage assessment confirmed that several terrorists were killed and that the logistics hub and associated facilities were completely destroyed. The strike also caused explosions and widespread fires, further degrading the group’s operational capacity.

The NAF said the operation significantly disrupted terrorist movement and resupply routes in the region. It underscored the Air Force’s ongoing commitment to denying terrorists safe havens, dismantling their networks and supporting broader security efforts in Nigeria’s north‑west.

The incident follows a series of security operations aimed at curbing insurgent activity in northern Nigeria, where militant groups have exploited forested terrain and porous borders to establish footholds. Authorities have intensified intelligence‑driven actions in recent months, seeking to prevent the regrouping of hostile elements.

No civilian casualties were reported. The NAF reiterated that it will continue to rely on precise, intelligence‑guided strikes to protect communities and restore stability in the region.
