ABUJA – The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has broken ground on its new National Secretariat in the federal capital, naming the facility “Olatunji Disu House” in honour of Inspector‑General of Police (IGP) Usman Umar Dan‑Fodio’s father, a longtime PCRC supporter.
The foundation‑laying ceremony on Wednesday was led by PCRC National Chairman Ibrahim Olaniyan, who described the development as a “major milestone” for the organisation. The project replaces the committee’s temporary office with a permanent headquarters on a site approved by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).
Olaniyan thanked the Ministry of Police Affairs and successive police leadership for facilitating the land allocation and for backing PCRC’s long‑term development agenda. He explained that the Secretariat will be built under a public‑private partnership to ease fiscal pressure on the federal government. “Through Nigeria Police Property Limited we secured a private partner to construct the estate and our National Secretariat,” he said.
The complex will house administrative offices and hotel accommodation for visiting officials and will also serve as a hub for community‑policing programmes. Construction is slated for completion and commissioning by December.
In his remarks, Olaniyan highlighted the symbolic significance of naming the building after Olatunji Disu, noting that Disu’s father was an active PCRC member in Lagos who consistently contributed to the committee’s activities. He also commended Assistant Inspector‑General of Police, Zone 7, Victor Olaiya, calling him a “game changer” for his support and prioritisation of PCRC initiatives.
AIG Victor Olaiya, who performed the foundation laying, said the project represents a substantial step toward strengthening PCRC’s institutional capacity and infrastructure. “They say the journey of a thousand miles begins with a step. Today, this foundation has been laid, and with support, it will soon become a reality,” he stated, expressing confidence that the Secretariat will be completed on schedule, citing the timely delivery of similar PCRC projects in Zone 7.
The establishment of the Olatunji Disu House marks the PCRC’s transition to a permanent, purpose‑built headquarters, reinforcing its role in fostering police‑community relations across Nigeria.
