Everything Kelsey Impicciche uses for streaming and filming while playing 'The Sims'

Kelsey Impicciche has turned her years of experience both in front of and behind the camera into a polished content‑creation operation that now supports a multi‑million‑subscriber YouTube channel and a debut novel. Known online as @kelseydangerous, the gamer‑turned‑author has built a following by streaming life‑simulation titles such as The Sims and Animal Crossing, while her earlier work at BuzzFeed produced the viral “Single Girl Tries The 100 Baby Challenge In The Sims 4,” a video that has amassed more than 24 million views since its 2018 debut.

Impicciche’s current studio is anchored by two CyberPower PC towers, custom‑built to run demanding simulation games without lag. The rigs feed into Elgato capture cards that handle the high‑resolution video streams required for both live broadcasting and recorded content. Complementing the computers are a pair of Alienware monitors—one flat‑screen and one curved—to provide ample visual real‑estate for multitasking between gameplay, editing software and chat windows.

Audio quality is managed through a Shure SM7B microphone routed through a Zoom H6 recorder. The setup uses a splitter so the microphone’s signal can be captured for video while simultaneously feeding an audio mixer for live streaming. Although Impicciche now prefers the TC‑Helicon GoXLR for mixing, she notes that the manufacturer has ceased updates for the device. As a contingency, she keeps a secondary microphone attached to her camera in case the primary unit encounters storage issues.

Video capture relies on a Canon C100 equipped with a 24‑70 mm lens. The camera connects directly to her PC via a second Elgato capture card, delivering HDMI output that can be streamed or recorded in real time. While the C100 is no longer sold new, it remains a favored option among creators and is readily available on the second‑hand market.

Lighting is provided by two Elgato key lights, positioned to supplement natural window light when indoor conditions are less than ideal. Impicciche stresses that while daylight remains the preferred source, reliable artificial lighting is essential for consistent visual quality during both YouTube productions and live streams.

For on‑the‑go recordings, such as TikTok clips, the creator simplifies her gear to an iPhone paired with a Rode VideoMic Me‑C+. The compact microphone plugs directly into the phone, eliminating the need for separate wireless audio solutions during quick shoots.

Impicciche’s evolution from a BuzzFeed contributor to an independent creator illustrates how incremental upgrades and practical experimentation can culminate in a professional‑grade studio without limitless budgets. Her workflow, which blends high‑performance computers, robust audio‑visual hardware and adaptable lighting, offers a template for aspiring African content creators seeking to elevate their digital productions. As her channel continues to grow and her literary career gains momentum, Impicciche’s setup is likely to evolve further, reflecting both emerging technologies and the expanding ambitions of a creator whose audience spans multiple continents.
