A leading member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern warning that President Bola Tinubu’s mandate is not to “play” but to fundamentally reshape Nigeria’s economy and governance. Joe Igbokwe, a senior APC chieftain, expressed this sentiment in a post on his official Facebook page on Tuesday. He emphasized that Tinubu was elected to “retool and re-work” the country, asserting that any political force that deliberately obstructs his agenda “will pay for it.”
Igbokwe stated, “We voted for PBAT to come and retool and rework Nigeria. We did not vote for him to come to play or continue business as usual. No, Sir. We have to push this country to rise and work again. If you adamantly stand in the way, you will pay for it.” His remarks come at a time when opposition figures are reportedly strategizing to challenge Tinubu’s administration ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle, citing ongoing economic difficulties and various national crises. Although the opposition has not yet unveiled a formal plan, media reports indicate a growing sentiment that the president’s handling of inflation, foreign exchange shortages, and security concerns has diminished public confidence.
The APC, which secured a majority in the 2023 general elections, has framed Tinubu’s tenure as a period of structural reform.
