Kaduna Labour Party calls for unity, reconciliation ahead of congresses

Lagos — The Labour Party (LP) in Lagos State says its organisational framework is fully operational across all 20 local government areas as it ramps up for the next general elections. Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, Lagos State Party Secretary Sam Okpala confirmed that the party has reinforced its internal structures and put in place arrangements aimed at delivering a strong electoral performance.

Okpala said the LP has already embarked on voter‑sensitisation and mobilisation drives in communities throughout the state, with plans to deepen its grassroots presence. He noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) now requires parties to register members through a nationwide electronic platform, a process the Labour Party began shortly after the 2023 elections and has continued since.

“We started preparation in 2023 and we are still here today, stronger,” Okpala told reporters. He described the party’s activities as people‑focused, emphasizing efforts to encourage citizen participation and to counter fears of violence, intimidation or electoral malpractice that could depress turnout.

Addressing ongoing internal disputes, Okpala acknowledged a leadership crisis but expressed confidence that the Supreme Court’s pending judgment will resolve the matter in the party’s favour. “We are hopeful the Court’s decision will enable us to reclaim the party,” he said.

Despite the challenges, Okpala assured members and supporters that the LP remains united and fully functional. He urged Lagos residents not to let intimidation or concerns over electoral integrity deter them from exercising their civic duties.

The Labour Party’s renewed push in Lagos reflects a broader strategy to expand its influence ahead of upcoming national elections, positioning itself as a viable alternative to the dominant parties. Observers will watch how the party’s mobilisation efforts and legal battles shape its prospects in the 2027 electoral cycle.
