The women’s wing of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Imo State convened a strategic leadership meeting at the party’s State Secretariat in New Owerri on Wednesday. The gathering, which brought together women leaders from the state’s 27 local government areas and other party stakeholders, aimed to reinforce cohesion, boost participation among women and chart a unified course for the ADC’s growth in the region.

State Woman Leader Uju Ihejiagwa opened the session by praising attendees for their loyalty and dedication amid a challenging political climate. She warned against allowing the recent defection of a few members to other parties to undermine the ADC’s resolve, stressing that the party remains “a united family” in Imo.

Director of Imo ADC New Media, Ihezie Dede Walax, echoed the sentiment in a statement released after the meeting, urging women leaders to stay steadfast despite external attempts to sway members. “Our strength lies in togetherness, mutual respect and a shared vision for a better society,” she said, adding that women have a “major responsibility to sustain the stability of this party and continue mobilising support across every community.”

South‑East Zonal Woman Leader, Hon. Barrister Chioma Joy Anyanwu, lauded the Imo women leadership for their resilience and organisational capacity. She called on them to champion peace, unity and responsible leadership, noting the ADC’s commitment to democratic values, inclusive governance and the empowerment of women and youth throughout the South‑East and beyond.

Among the participants were Hon. Lady Leticia Okere, Hon. Mrs Ruth Nwokocha, Hon. Mrs Getrude Iroemeh, Hon. Barr. Chisom Dominic and Nneoma Gloria Chukwuba, together with a broader cohort of party faithful from across the state.

The meeting underscored the ADC’s focus on grassroots mobilisation and party development as it seeks to expand its footprint in Imo’s 27 local government areas. By reinforcing internal unity and encouraging active female participation, the party hopes to consolidate its presence ahead of forthcoming electoral contests.

The outcomes of the session are expected to inform the ADC’s strategic plans for upcoming political engagements in Imo State and the wider South‑East region.
