Missouri running back Ahmad Hardy was shot at an outdoor concert in Mississippi on Sunday. He survived the attack, underwent surgery and was released from the hospital on Wednesday before returning to his hometown in Missouri.
Police in Paducah, Kentucky, detained 20‑year‑old Rashodrick Harris on Thursday, identifying him as a suspect through surveillance footage and a witness statement. Harris was taken into custody on a warrant issued by Mississippi authorities and is awaiting extradition to face charges related to the shooting.
In addition to Harris, three other individuals were briefly held for questioning but were released without charge.
The incident occurred as Hardy, a key player for the University of Missouri football program, was emerging as one of the nation’s top rushers, finishing last season with 1,649 rushing yards—second highest among all Football Bowl Subdivision athletes.
Hardy’s medical team has not disclosed whether the injuries or surgery will affect his availability for the upcoming 2026 season.
Missouri officials and teammates have expressed relief that Hardy survived and are awaiting further information from law‑enforcement officials regarding the investigation’s progress and any additional arrests.
The case underscores ongoing concerns about athlete safety off the field and will continue to be monitored as Harris’s extradition process moves forward.
