Katsina, Nigeria – Party stakeholders in the All Progressives Congress (APC) have reached a consensus on the candidate who will contest the House of Representatives seat for the Kankara/Faskari/Sabuwa federal constituency. Former Commissioner for Environment Ham Sule Faskari was endorsed as the APC’s standard‑bearer at a rally held in Kankara on Saturday.
The gathering, attended by party leaders, ward representatives and other constituency stakeholders, affirmed the decision of the APC consensus committee, which represents the 31 wards across the three local government areas that make up the constituency. Organisers said the selection process involved extensive consultations among party officials and grassroots members, and that Faskari emerged as the preferred choice because of his political experience, popularity, acceptability and record of public service.
Deputy Governor of Katsina State, Faruk Lawal Jobe, praised the work of the consensus committee, chaired by former Deputy Governor Tukur Ahmad Jikamshi, describing the procedure as “thorough and inclusive.” He urged any aspirants who were not selected to respect the outcome and to work collectively for the party’s success in the forthcoming general elections.
In his acceptance speech, Faskari thanked the APC leadership and constituency stakeholders for their confidence. He called for unity within the party and appealed to voters to ensure that they obtain their Permanent Voter Cards in time for the election.
The consensus endorsement reflects the APC’s effort to present a unified front in a constituency that spans the northern part of Katsina State. As the party finalises its campaign strategy, the focus now shifts to mobilising supporters and consolidating voter registration ahead of the national polls.
