Adamu Abubakar, the son of former Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar, has been declared the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Chanchaga Federal Constituency in Niger State after winning the party’s primary election. According to Returning Officer AbdulMumin Attahiru, Abubakar secured 30,650 votes, vastly outpacing his nearest rival, Nmaa Ahmed, who received 1,271 votes. A third contender, Shuaibu Mairago, garnered 311 votes. The vote was conducted across the constituency’s eleven wards, and Attahiru formally returned Abubakar as the APC flag‑bearer.
In a separate contest for the Lapai Federal Constituency, APC Returning Officer Ibrahim Usman announced that Alhaji Abdullahi Mahmud emerged victorious with 8,559 votes. His opponents, Sadiqu Mustapha and Mahawiya Yusuf, obtained 395 and 247 votes respectively, figures compiled from the ten wards that make up the constituency. Usman subsequently declared Mahmud the party’s candidate for the upcoming National Assembly election.
The APC’s primary elections also produced a winner in the Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency, where Professor Yakubu Auna was announced as the party’s nominee.
These primary results position the three candidates to contest the forthcoming House of Representatives elections under the APC banner. The outcomes reflect the party’s internal dynamics ahead of the national polls and underscore the influence of political lineages in Niger State’s electoral landscape. Further developments will follow as parties finalize their tickets and campaign strategies intensify across the region.
