Delta North Roars: Thousands Rally Behind Peter Obi as NDC’s 2027 Presidential Pick

In a vibrant show of political force, the Oshimili South chapter of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) has thrown its weight behind former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi as the party’s consensus presidential candidate for the 2027 elections. The endorsement came during the party’s primaries held in Asaba, Delta State, where delegates from across the Delta North Senatorial District gathered to select candidates for presidential, senatorial, House of Representatives, and state assembly seats.

The event, hosted at Anglican Girls Grammar School, Asaba, drew thousands of enthusiastic party members and supporters. Through a resounding voice vote, delegates overwhelmingly adopted Obi as the NDC’s flag bearer, signaling a groundswell of support for his leadership in the upcoming general election.

Speaking to the press, Victor Ochei, a Delta North senatorial aspirant and former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, hailed the massive turnout. He credited the mobilization efforts of party aspirants and a growing hunger among Nigerians for transformative change. Ochei declared that the NDC is poised to mount a formidable challenge against rival parties in 2027, fueled by public demand for a government that delivers good governance, lifts living standards, and reignites hope.

“Our campaign will center on the quest for genuine change, better leadership, and policies that put people first,” Ochei said. He also addressed concerns about electoral integrity, emphasizing that voters are now more determined than ever to protect their ballots. “In the past, votes might not have counted, but today, people would rather face death than see their votes ignored. Their votes must count,” he asserted. “After casting their ballots, we will track the process all the way to the INEC office to ensure transparency in collation and result declaration.”

At the time of reporting, results from 98 wards across nine local government areas in Delta North were still being tallied, with final outcomes set to be submitted to the party’s national headquarters for official announcement.

This surge of support for Obi underscores a shifting political landscape in Nigeria, where citizens are increasingly rallying behind leaders promising accountability and renewal. As the NDC gears up for 2027, all eyes are on Delta North—a region sending a clear message that change is on the horizon.
