Osun Assembly election: Voter apathy, heavy security takes precedence

There is heavy security presence in most polling units as the electorates go to the polls to elect members of the state House of Assembly.

Media Talk Africa gathered that there was heavy presence of security in Ilesa East and West local government areas of the state and also some were observed within Osogbo, the state capital.

The heavy presence of security personnel in Ilesa East and West local governments may not be unconnected to the recent killings and violence recorded prior to the poll.

As a result of the heavy security, some travellers were detained in front of the Osun State House of Assembly.

The security personnel claimed that the detained travellers were contravening the restriction of movement order imposed by the IGP, Usman Baba Alkali.

The detained travellers maintained they were voters travelling to their poling units which is quite far.

Increased security check points were also observed in the state capital.

It was also observed that in most polling units in Ilesa, the voters list was not displayed on the wall and the voters preferred to identify themselves physically before the adhoc staff.

The adhoc staff also stated that it is wrong and a very long process and it is a big problem in Ilesa.

Some polling units have voters waiting while some do not.

Adhoc staff say they are still expecting more voters to come in as the day goes by.

Turn out of voters in some polling units in Osogbo have recorded poor voter turnout.
