Peter Obi not behind fake news of CJN, Tinubu’s London meeting – Lawyer

Jibrin Samuel Okutepa, SAN, a member of Peter Obi Labour Party’s legal team at the Presidential Election Tribunal, has described as fake the news alleging the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Olukayode Ariwoola disguised on a wheel chair to meet President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He debunked Peter Obi’s involvement in the purported story.

On Thursday, online news media alleged that the CJN met Tinubu in London to influence the judiciary ahead of a presidential election tribunal hearing.

But on Friday, the Director of Press at the Supreme Court, Festus Akande, in a statement, debunked the news saying it is false.

Okutepa, in a series of tweets on official Twitter handle on Friday, said those linking the former Governor of Anambra State to the fake news are being mischievous and satanic.

He said Peter Obi has respect and confidence in the judiciary that is why he approached the court for justice.

He urged Nigerians not to bring the judiciary into disrepute and shame.

According to him, citizens must respect the men and women on the Bench.

He added that those who feel wronged about the rotten eggs in the system should channel their criticism through civil manners, not resorting to lies.

“That I am in the legal team of HE Peter Obi does not stop me from speaking the truth. HE Peter Obi does not represent and does not promote fake news. Those attributing the news of CJN disguising to meet a politician [to] HE Peter Obi are mischievous and satanic,” he posted.
