Suspected herdsmen kill five in Benue communities

Five people were reportedly killed by suspected herdsmen at different locations in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State in renewed attacks.

Locals, who spoke to our correspondent, said that the first incident happened last Thursday at Udei when the victims numbering four went out for fishing but were killed.

In the second incident that happened on Sunday at Njee, one person was reportedly killed by the suspected herders.

One of the locals who identified himself as Anyamnhu said that the last victim, Tyowooga Iorpuu, was killed on Sunday afternoon by herders that raided Chongu Village, Mbagwa-Mbawa, Daudu in Guma LGA.

He said the late Tyowooga, aged 45, was  survived by his wife, Mrs Mlumun Tyowooga and five children.

Confirming the two attacks, the chairman of Guma Local Government, Mike Aba, who spoke through the Chief Security Officer of the council, Christopher Waku, said that three women and a man were killed in the first attack at Udei.

He said, “There were two incidences, one happened last Thursday at a fish pond. The deceased, three women and a man had gone to the fish pond for fishing between 3 and 4 pm but were attacked and killed by herders.

“The second attack happened at Chongu Village, Mbagwa-Mbawa, where one person was killed.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the State, SP Catherine Anene, when contacted said she was yet to receive the reports.
