Benue State Governor-elect, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, on Wednesday, said he would broker peace between Benue residents and Fulani herders community when sworn in as governor.
The governor-elect, who fell short of stating that he would revisit the anti-open grazing policy already in place, wondered where the Benue and Fulani community fell apart, leading to endless crisis and loss of lives.
He made the pledge when he visited President Muhammadu Buhari in the Presidential Villa Abuja, in the company of former governor of the state, and current Minister of Special Duties, George Akume.
Alia described the recent election that produced him as largely transparent, attributing the feat to President Buhari.
According to him, there are no perfect elections anywhere, but the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, may have succeeded in conducting a near-perfect election which could be built upon going forward as a nation.
Media Talk Africa recalls that Fr. Alia, on the platform of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, emerged victorious in the just concluded gubernatorial election in the state.
