Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo is enjoying another stellar season with Al Hilal in the Saudi Arabia Professional League and the striker has expressed his delight with his goalscoring form, Sports Extra reports.
Ighalo was on target against Al-Ittihad, scoring the only goal that separated the two sides in a keenly contested game played on Thursday.
The 33-year-old finished last season as the top scorer in Saudi Arabia, contributing 24 goals for Al-Shabab and later Al Hilal. This season, he has already scored eight goals in 12 games for Al Hilal.
The Nigerian is one goal behind Al-Nassr’s Brazilian forward Anderson Talisca for the top scorer award.
In an interview with FIFA+, the former Watford striker said he was happy scoring goals.
“I’m happy. Strikers enjoy goals. Sometimes the goals don’t come, but I work hard and give my best to contribute,” he said.
“It’s a team effort. My target is to help the team win, to help the team keep progressing. Sometimes I score goals, sometimes I don’t, but I’m happy as long as we’re winning. As a striker though, you want to score goals to boost your confidence. I try to get a goal in every game I play. If not, I try to provide an assist. But ultimately, as long as my teams wins, I’m happy.”
Ighalo faces difficult opposition for the top scorer award this season following the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia.
He will return to action with Al-Hilal when they take on Al-Raed in their next league fixture scheduled for Tuesday.
