The Grand Khadi of the Kwara Sharia Court of Appeal, Justice Abdul‑Lateef Kamaldeen, urged Muslims to keep death in mind, emphasizing that life is governed by principle rather than miracle. Speaking at a Ramadan lecture organized by the Ma’asalam Islamic Foundation in Ilorin on Saturday, he reminded the audience that everyone will die eventually, no matter how long or virtuous their life may be. “If people knew their end, they would conduct themselves better,” he said.
Justice Kamaldeen noted that today many live as they please, yet every good deed, however small, will be rewarded, just as wrongdoing will be punished. He invoked the memory of the late Justice Mustapha Akanbi, whose legacy of good deeds endures because he acted with sincere intentions and feared Allah. “Everyone should remember Allah in all they do, wherever they are,” the News Agency of Nigeria quoted him.
The Grand Khadi also stressed the importance of fearing Allah, advising believers to invoke His name before speaking, to speak less, and to be conscious of the Almighty. He called on Muslims to worship only Allah, respect their parents, refrain from killing, return orphan property when due, and act justly in all dealings, in accordance with the Qur’an.
Acting Vice‑Chancellor of Kwara State University, Prof. Sheikh Lukman, noted that the event marked the 15th edition of the Ramadan lecture series founded by the late Justice Mustapha Akanbi, the pioneer chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission. Lukman praised the programme as a positive development for Muslims and prayed for its continuation, recognizing its role in educating believers about Allah’s commands.
Malam Usman Akanbi, director of the foundation, explained that the lecture was deliberately organized during Ramadan to remind Muslims to exhibit the highest level of piety.
