Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the member representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency and Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, denied the opposition’s claim that he killed 16 people, saying, “I have never killed a fly, let alone 16 people.” He asserted that the allegations were a smear campaign designed to tarnish his reputation. Doguwa credited his recent electoral victory to the will of Allah, who “gives power to whom He wishes.”
Speaking to journalists in Kano on Tuesday, Doguwa described the episode as one of the most trying moments of his political career. He said his rivals “went all out to hold my jugular and insisted that I shouldn’t be elected to return to the House,” using “malicious propaganda, hate speech and other tactics” to paint him in a negative light. He added that Allah ultimately decided otherwise. “I forgive all those who wronged me and would like to call on them to come forward and assist me in discharging my duties as the representative of the people,” he said.
Regarding his ambition for the Speakership, Doguwa said he would not rush into the contest but would not hesitate if called upon. “The issue is with my party. Once the APC zones the Speakership post to the North‑West and my colleagues give me the necessary support, I will do as they wish. If they allocate it to another zone, I will remain a loyal party man and forge ahead.” He expressed willingness to serve even as a messenger to the House if his colleagues deemed that position beneficial to their collective interests.
Doguwa concluded by thanking the people of Doguwa and Tudun Wada for their steadfast support, which enabled his comeback. He also expressed gratitude to President‑elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kano State Governor Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje for their brotherly support, which helped him navigate the numerous challenges he faced.
