CAF Confederation Cup: South African referee for Rivers United, Young Africans clash

The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) has appointed South African referee Tom Abongile for Rivers United’s Confederation Cup quarter-final match against Young Africans of Tanzania.

The match will be played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, on Sunday.

Abongile, 31, will be assisted by Ivanildo Meirelles de Oliveira Sanches (Assistant 1) from Angola and Abelmiro Dos Reis Monte Negro (Assistant 2) from Sao Tome.

Djindo Louis Houngnandande (Benin) will be the fourth official, while Hamza El Fariq and his compatriots from Morocco, Adil Zourak, will be the Video Assistant Referees, VAR.

The return leg will take place next week Sunday at the Benjamin Nkapa Stadium, Dar es Salaam.

Rivers United are looking to become the first Nigerian club to win the CAF Confederation Cup.
