NCoS denies sexual activities by inmates in Yobe prison

The Nigerian Correctional Service, Yobe State Command, has denied alleged reports of inmates engaged in reckless sexual activities, following a long period of blackout in Yobe Prison.

The Yobe Prison Authority described the report as baseless and an attempt to discredit the good work of officers and men of Yobe Correctional Service.

In a statement, ASC Haruna Isah, Yobe Command’s Public Relations Officer, said: “The attention of Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) Yobe State has been drawn to a purported report by an online media outlet alleging that inmates engage in reckless sexual activities occasioned by weeks of blackout in Yobe Prisons.”

According to the statement, the Yobe Command clarified that the report is false, unpatriotic and malicious in its entirety, adding that the report was calculated to truncate the existing peace and tranquillity in custodial facilities in the command.

Isah further averred that the malicious publication was intended to mislead the public as there was no sexual activity going on in any of the correctional formations across the state.

He further avowed that the Controller of Corrections, Yobe State Command, has taken steps to address the issue of blackout.
He urged media outfits to always verify reports before publishing.
