Ifo 1 Constituency: Ogun Speaker receives certificate of return

The Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Olakunle Oluomo, has received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

This followed his victory after a supplementary election held in Ifo Constituency 1 on April 15.

In a keenly contested election, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate defeated his closest rival from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with less than 1,000 votes.

While Oluomo polled 7, 546 votes, Yusuf Ogundele got 6, 596 votes.

Presenting the certificate at the INEC state headquarters in Abeokuta, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ogun, Niyi Ijalaye, said the event is in conformity with Section 72(1) of the Electoral Act 2022, which mandated INEC to issue a Certificate of Return within 14 days to every candidate returned elected under the law.

In his words, Oluomo attributed his fourth consecutive electoral success to the glory of God and the unflinching support of his constituents.

He commended INEC for an improved electoral exercise, recounting the tough electoral process in his constituency that led to the supplementary poll held on April 15.
