Police arraign man over N2m engine oil theft

The Police on Wednesday arraigned a 41-year-old man, Kingsley Kina, before a Lagos State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ojo for allegedly stealing 70 cartons of engine oil worth N2m.

Kina, whose address was not given, is facing a two-count chargebordering on conspiracy and stealing preferred against him by the police.

The prosecutor, Inspector A. Esther, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at Aspamda Trade fair complex, Lagos.

The prosecutor said that the defendant conspired with others who are at large to steal 40 cartons of channel engine oil and 30 cartons of Sharlu engine oil valued at N2m, property of Kellyson Incorporation company.

She said that the incident took place between March and April 14, 2023 at about 9 am, at the Aspamda Trade Fair Complex, Lagos.

According to her, the offence committed contravened Sections 411,280 and 287 of the criminal law of Lagos State 2015.

However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Magistrate Docars Odukoya granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. The case was adjourned till May 16 for trial.
