Court remands 20-year-old for illegal possession of firearm

An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Friday remanded a 20-year-old man, Solomon Johnson, at the Kirikiri custodial facility for alleged illegal possession of a firearm.

The Magistrate, Mrs M. Ayinde, who did not take Johnson’s plea, ordered that the case file should be duplicated and sent to the state Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.

Ayinde adjourned the case until May 23 for mention.

The defendant, who resides at 17, Okosun St., Ajangbadi, Ojo, Lagos State, is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp Segun Oke, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 13 at Ajegunle, Lagos State.

Oke said that a team of policemen on patrol arrested the defendant with a locally-made double-barrel gun and two live cartridges.

He said that the defendant could not give any satisfactory explanation as to how he got them.

Oke said that the offences contravened Sections 4 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2015.
