Police arrest suspects, recover weapons in Alaba market, clarify fire incident

The Lagos State Police Command has cleared air on reported fire outbreak at the Alaba International market in the state.

An online platform earlier reported that the popular market was gutted by fire on Friday morning.

But the Police Public Relations officer of the command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin said in a tweet on his official handle that the inferno was due to a raide by officers of the command.

According to him, officers from Ojo Division raided shanties around the market area, arrested some suspects and set the shanties ablaze.

He wrote, “This is a false narrative! Acting on credible information, police officers from Ojo Division raided shanties around the market, arrested suspected criminals and recovered some weapons. The shanties were thereafter set on fire”.
