Nasarawa: Sule appoints ex-chief judge as Eggon paramount ruler

Governor Abdullahi Sule has approved the selection of ex-Chief Judge, Justice Ahmed Ubangari as the new paramount ruler of Eggon in Nasarawa.

Ubangari succeeds the late Aren Eggon, Dr. Bala Abaine-Angbazo who died in July 2022 after 41 years on the throne.

The governor approved the monarch after receiving the report of the selection committee on Friday in Lafia, the capital.

Yusuf Aliyu-Turaki, Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development presented the report.

It includes copies of the nomination papers, ballot papers, result sheets and a full report of the selection exercise.

In his remarks, Sule said the selection was done transparently by the village heads of Wakama, Wulgo and Aribadu, the kingmakers.

“I refused to meet any of them. I instructed all those seeking this office, about 11, to go and campaign.

“For the first time, they came here today after the election and I confirmed from them the person they selected.”

The governor also disclosed that he confirmed the result was not influenced by anyone or persons.

Sule then presented the new Aren Eggon to the State Traditional Council of Chiefs led by the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage-Muhammad.
