Ekweremadu: UK Govt has no regard for Nigeria – International relations expert

An International Relations expert, Ikiri Joe, has said that the Government of the United Kingdom does not regard Nigeria.

Joe’s comment follows the refusal of the UK to pardon Senator Ike Ekweremadu despite pleas of clemency by former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, the Economic Community of West African States as well as the leadership of the National Assembly.

He said Nigeria would have yielded to UK Government’s plea, if it was their citizens arrested in Nigeria.

Joe, in an interview with Media Talk Africa, also said Nigeria will learn its lesson, following the recent event.

He said, “That decision shows the way Britain as a country and its institutions regard Nigeria.

“They do not regard Nigeria in any way and I’m sure from this event Nigeria as a country will learn a lesson.

“If it were British citizens that were arrested in Nigeria, and Britain pleaded for clemency, I’m sure Nigeria would have yielded. But for the case of Nigeria, they did not”, he said.
