Rep. Gagdi declares for speakership, promises democratic dividends

Rep. Yusuf Gagdi (APC-Plateau) has officially joined the race for the speakership of the 10th House of Representative with a promise to deliver democratic dividends to Nigerians.

Mr Gagdi, who is contesting under the mantra of “One Nation, Forward Together”, made the declaration at the Transcorp Hilton on Saturday in Abuja.

The lawmaker, who is the chairman, House Committee on Navy, said that under his watch “the House of Reps would be the embodiment of the nation’s democracy”.

He added that it would be a House where each member represent the value of the country, saying the House will no longer be taken for granted.

He promised to return the House of Representatives to a House where legislative agenda would be strictly adhered to.

Mr Gagdi also promised to sponsor a bill that would legitimatise legislative agenda.

According to him, the House shall be vested with a lot of responsibility that prioritised legislation, to reform oversight function and oversee implementation of laws.

One of his supporters, Rep. Mohammed Kazaure (APC-Jigawa) urged members to queue behind the speakership ambition of Gagdi, saying he remained the best among the arrays of contestants.

“We need the House of Reps that will help the Nigerian people, that will oversight projects and not assembly that will keep members in hotels without nothing to show for it,” he said

Contributing, a Senator-elect from Plateau, Diket Plang, said: “Gagdi has a strong will, he is coordinated and stands for representation. The dividends of democracy in his constituency is unparalleled.”

Mr Plang said the achievements of Gagdi on the Plateau was unprecedented, adding that the aspirant believed in humanity not tribe or religion, saying he treats all equal.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that other members-elect from both the oppositions and the APC came to show solidarity and spoke glowingly of Gagdi.
