Abia govt to conduct mass blood group, genotype tests on residents

Abia State Ministry of Health has announced that blood group and genotype tests would be conducted on all residents of the State.

In respect to this, the ministry has invited suitably qualified medical laboratories operating in the State to apply to participate in the programme.

This development was made known by the State’s Commissioner for health, Dr Joe Osuji in a release he personally signed.

Osuji explained that the mass testing program is in fulfilment of the provisions of the Abia State of Nigeria Law No.5 of 2018 which stipulates that all Abians must be tested for blood group and genotype.

The Ministry of health also explained that applications from suitably qualified medical laboratories operating in the State was for the implementation of the Abia State Identification of Blood Group and Genotype Law.

The ministry added that successful laboratories would be selected as the government-approved laboratories for the mass test.

It said that expression of interest forms which would be obtained from the ministry would end on May 9, 2023.
