Bandits release more students of FGC Birnin Yauri

Bandits have released three of the remaining seven girls from the Federal Government College, FGC, Birnin Yauri, Kebbi State.

Recall that 96 female students were abducted when the school was attacked by the gunmen on June 17, 2021.

The bandits have been releasing the students in batches after payment of ransom by their parents.

The chairman of the parents’ forum of the abducted schoolgirls, Salim Kaoje, who confirmed the latest release to the Daily Trust, said the girls arrived at the state capital on Monday afternoon.

He said those released are Elizabeth Ogechi Nwafor, Esther Sunday, and Aliya Abubakar.

“Yes, they released three of the school girls to us on Sunday evening. They are already with the state government,” Mr. Kaoje said. He did not state if any ransom was paid.

In April, the notorious bandit leader Dogo Gide released four of the girls. The girls are Bilha Musa, Faiza Ahmed, Rahma Abdullahi, and Hafsa Murtala.

Mr Kaoje, while confirming their release in April, disclosed that an undisclosed amount of money was paid to secure the release of the four girls.

He added that the parents sold off their properties and launched a fund-raising campaign that saw many Nigerians assist them financially.
