Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), who have been conducting operations in the Lake Chad Basin Region, recently neutralized several terrorists and recovered heavy weapons. The renewed onslaught on the terrorists, codenamed “Operation Harbin Kunama” (Scorpion sting), has yielded remarkable results, according to a statement released by the MNJTF spokesperson, Lt. Col. Kamarudeen Adegoke.

The statement revealed that following an attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists on troops in the general area of Arege, which was effectively repelled, an exploitation was conducted on May 11 in the same location. Several items were discovered, including one Dushka gun, Dushka Turrell, and a burnt Gun truck. In addition, several terrorists were neutralized during the encounter.

A clearance operation in the general area of Ferondiya in the lake Chad Basin was also conducted successfully in clearing terrorist hideouts. The statement reported that equipment recovered from the terrorists included two Gun trucks, two Anti–Aircrafts guns, one RPG tube, two AK 47 rifles, one RPG bomb, and three Toyota Buffalo Gun truck tyres. Furthermore, 387 rounds of 12.7mm, 440 rounds of 7.62mm x 54mm, and 364 rounds of 7.62mm x 50mm ammunitions were confiscated.

The Force Commander of the MNJTF, Maj.-Gen. G.U Chibuisi, commended the troops for their unwavering commitment and urged them to sustain the momentum. He also acknowledged the effective role of air components in the successes recorded and beckoned more synergy for maximum results.

The continued offensive posture and diligence of the MNJTF troops has significantly reduced the capacity of Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists to carry out their activities in the Lake Chad Basin region. The troops are poised to take on the terrorists head-on and ensure peace, stability, and security in the region.
