INEC Confirms Samuel Anyanwu as PDP’s Imo Gubernatorial Candidate

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the list of gubernatorial candidates in preparation of the off-cycle elections in Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi states scheduled to take place on November 11, 2023. For Imo state, Samuel Anyanwu has been confirmed by INEC as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate and will be running with Jones Onyereri as his deputy.

The PDP campaign Director on New Media, Dumebi Ifeanyichukwu, expressed confidence in their candidate, Anyanwu, a former senator and incumbent PDP National Secretary, stating that he is “well prepared for the task ahead.” In addition, ifeanyichukwu noted that Anyanwu had already forwarded the details of his running mate.

The PDP has also announced the formation of a Manifesto/Strategic Communication Committee with the objective of creating people-oriented programs. Anyanwu, who is a two-term Imo House of Assembly member, has vowed to unseat the current Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Meanwhile, the Julius Abure-led faction has produced the Labour Party (LP) candidates and their particulars were also published by INEC.

The PDP statement also urged INEC, security agencies, and other stakeholders to ensure a level-playing field for free and fair exercise, this call coming after numerous allegations of electoral fraud surfaced during the previous elections.

The confirmation of Samuel Anyanwu as the PDP’s Imo gubernatorial candidate has been met with great anticipation from supporters of the party, who are hopeful that he will provide strong leadership, security, and economic prosperity to the war-torn state.
