On Saturday, Spezia pulled off an incredible 2-0 victory over AC Milan at home, halting their unbeaten run in Serie A after two months. The surprise win dented AC Milan’s hopes for a top-four finish.

Milan got a clear chance in the first half when Sandro Tonali hit the post in the sixth minute while Theo Hernandez’s powerful shot from outside the box was saved by keeper Bartlomiej Dragowski. Still, Spezia kept up the pressure despite Milan’s dominance.

The struggling hosts’ efforts paid off in the second half when defender Przemyslaw Wisniewski scored in the 75th minute. Five minutes from time, midfielder Salvatore Esposito sealed the victory for the home team with a stunning free-kick that flew into the top left corner.

“They were better than us today, and they deserved to win,” Milan coach Stefano Pioli said. The loss to lowly Spezia was Milan’s second in their last seven league matches, and they are currently fifth in the standings with 61 points, two behind city rivals Inter Milan, who play Sassuolo later on Saturday.

Atalanta’s loss to Salernitana earlier in the day meant they fell to seventh place in the Serie A rankings. Meanwhile, Spezia’s win lifts them closer to safety, with 30 points, level with 17th-placed Verona, who have a game in hand.

Milan will play the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan on Tuesday, April 11th, at the San Siro Stadium.
