As the 2022/2023 Premier League season draws to a close, Nottingham Forest coach Steve Cooper has expressed his confidence in Nigeria international, Taiwo Awoniyi’s abilities to maintain his current form and keep scoring goals as the team battles to avoid relegation.

Despite his injury-induced absence for a significant part of the season, Awoniyi has made an impressive comeback in recent games, contributing to his team’s victories. His two goals in Nottingham Forest’s victory against Southampton and his two-goal haul in the 2-2 draw with Chelsea, has seen him score eight goals in 28 league matches. This means that he has matched his tally of four goals in 26 games in his last two appearances.

Cooper has praised Awoniyi’s impressive form in recent games and has expressed his hope that the Nigerian striker will continue to score goals in the team’s remaining two games of the season.

In Cooper’s words per Nottingham Post, “You always want your striker to be scoring goals, and he’s got more than a few this week. Although he’s got his goals in the last two games since he’s come back he’s played really well. But obviously, you want your number nine to be scoring goals. We’ve been really happy with T. He showed a great attitude and commitment to getting back in the way he did. Now he’s turning good performances into good performances with goals. That’s what you want and what you need from your strikers. Let’s hope he can carry on in the next two games.”

There is no gainsaying that Cooper’s confidence in Awoniyi is not misplaced, as the former Union Berlin striker has proven to be a valuable asset to the team when fit. His impressive performances in the last two games could motivate the team and spur them on to victory in their remaining fixtures.
