There was pandemonium in Jalingo, the capital city of Taraba state, on Monday night, as an explosion occurred at a local drinking spot. The incident reportedly happened around 9 PM at Jika Drinking spot in Dorowa.
Although the details of the blast remained sketchy at the time of filing this report, reports suggest that it was caused by an improvised explosive device (IED). Fortunately, no deaths were reported but some people sustained injuries.
According to eyewitnesses, the sound of the explosion was deafening, causing people to run for their dear lives. Peace Danjuma, an eyewitness, said: “Yesterday as at 9 pm, we were at a local joint called Jika, drinking when something under the chair we were seated on exploded. The whole place was filled with smoke while we took to our heels. We ran outside for safety, but the blast broke my friend’s leg.”
While confirming the incident, the Taraba State Police Command spokesman, Abdullahi Usman, disclosed that the anti-bomb squad was already investigating the incident.
The explosion came a few days after a similar incident occurred in Delta State, where a heavy explosion rocked a gas station, causing widespread panic in the area. No casualties were reported in that incident either.
As investigations continue, residents in Taraba state have been advised to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
