The Founder of Canadian University in Abuja, Prof. Adamu Abubakar-Gwarzo, has supported the Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR) with a generous sum of two million naira to help fund the publication of two books. The books, titled “Pantami: The Trials and Triumphs of a Digital Economy Maestro” and “eNaira Revolution: A Peep into Nigeria’s Cashless Future” were written by Mal. Yushau Shuaib and Abdulrahman Abdulraheem, respectively.
The reputable academic made the financial donation during the inaugural Economic Confidential Public Lecture and Book presentation, where both books were showcased and discussed. Dr. Abdullahi Sufi, Director of the Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo Foundation (AAG Foundation), who represented Mr Gwarzo, praised the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Ali-Pantami, for his contributions and efforts towards developing Nigeria’s digital economy arena.
The public lecture, and book presentation event – organized by Image Merchants Promotion Limited, producers of PRNigeria, and Economic Confidential – had the theme: “Economic Diversification in an Evolving Cashless Society”. Experts at the event advocated for a diversified economy, and the Nigerian Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Mr Pantami, emphasized the need for a knowledge-based economy to develop policy initiatives around Nigeria’s digital sector.
While highlighting the importance of economic diversification in society’s cashless evolution, the minister pointed out that the world’s countries excelling in digital technology are trailblazers in economic development. Countries like the United States, China, Japan, Germany, and India, he said, leveraged their natural resources to build a knowledge-based economy through digital technology, a method he believes is essential for Nigeria.
The Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Mohammed Shehu, also stressed that Nigeria must diversify its economy. He observed that the country couldn’t cope with a mono-economy while other nations have since stopped depending on petrol to drive their economy. Mr Shehu, who chaired the dual event hosted by Economic Confidential, stated that the country was getting most of its funds from non-oil revenue sources like taxes, customs, etc., with the NNPC contributing less than 5% of what is shared across the federation.
In his review of the book on Mr Pantami, Jaafar Jaafar, the Publisher of the DAILY NIGERIAN, commended the minister for making a positive impact on Nigeria’s economic development. He applauded the author’s storytelling capabilities, especially his chronicling of the feats achieved by Mr Pantami as communications minister since 2019.
Many dignitaries graced the event, including prominent public functionaries, academics, media executives, and politicians.
